Mickey Thompson Tires Honored at SEMA Show

Mickey Thompson Tires have achieved a lot in the tire industry, more than everybody know. Mickey Thompson Tires was selected as the winner of the SEMA New Product Award in the Best New Merchandising Display category, giving credit for its new space-saving mini off-road tire and wheel showroom display. To come first for this award in the midst of thousands of entries is truly quite an honor. Remarked Ken Warner, VP of Sales and Marketing for Mickey Thompson Tires, “This is the second time we have been fortunate enough to receive the award, the previous one was for Best New Performance Product when we first introduced our ET Street Tire which revolutionized DOT bracket racing. We’re extremely proud to be considered a product development leader among our peers in the SEMA organization, it is the greatest honor we could receive.”

Mickey Thompson Tires was also held the winner for the Product Excellence Award from Ford Motor Company acknowledging their product development and new product execution in building their 2006 Ford sponsored project vehicle. Following a thorough assessment by members of Ford’s Product Development Community, the award was given based on new product development, vehicle appearance, marketability/fit with the brand, use of aftermarket parts, and display..

New Mickey Thompson Sportsman S/R Radials and M/T HR1 forged aluminum wheels along with new products from other industry leading companies such as Roush, Air Ride Technologies, SSBC, Kicker, CST Roadwire, and more. Built in association with our partners at Sin City Customs in Las Vegas Nevada, It will has been seen in several magazine articles and television shows and was on tour at high profile shows and events across the country in 2007. Mickey Thompson Advertising Manager, Don Sneddon, who manages the company’s project vehicle program said, “We are very pleased to participate in Ford’s project vehicle development program, it gives us the chance to showcase the suggested use of our new products and it gives us the opportunity to work closely with other companies in the aftermarket to develop and market the kinds of new products that keep this industry on the cutting edge.”

Famed vehicle builder and race team owner Jack Roush who provided the power for the truck joined the M/T team at the show for a press conference to introduce the New Roush Racing .07 Drag Pack, an exciting new Mustang package that will be available next year. The 2007 Mustang package, shown here in the M/T booth, will be loaded with Roush performance products and upgrades. The vehicle will come with Cooper Zeon 2XS tires for street driving and the owner will receive a pair of Mickey Thompson ET Drag Slicks for drag racing. The vehicle is designed to be driven off the dealer showroom and out to the drag strip where owners can expect to run the quarter mile in 12 seconds with no additional modifications. In testing, the Roush team was able to achieve several runs in the 11.9 second and 113 mph range! Several drag racing sanctioning bodies are considering developing special race classes just for owners of these street legal factory drag cars, the likes of which have not been seen since the early 70.s.

SEMA show management also stopped by the Mickey Thompson booth with a special award recognizing the company as being a Founding Member of the SEMA organization. This year is the 40th anniversary of the show. Mickey Thompson Tires was at the very first show in 1967 and has been present ever since. SEMA President and CEO Chris Kersting said it best, “As this is an anniversary, I am honored to recognize the businesses that have been with us, as successful competitors, from the very first Show. To our founding exhibitors, our loyal returning companies and our first-timers, thanks for the amazingly creative products, passion and unwavering ability to make the SEMA Show the place where the automotive industry can discover the new trends and answer the question What’s new? After all, that is what the Sema show is all about, new products, new companies, and new opportunities."

*Note:
The federal government imposes an excise tax with a graduated tax rate structure on heavy tires. The early history of this tax shows that it mirrored war periods and was used both to conserve rubber supplies and as a funding source. Today, tire taxes are part of the monies used to fund the Highway Trust Fund.

We have already included this tax into all of tire prices. We are proud to say that we have hidden charges.
